Body Mass Index

Where your height and weight land on the standard scale, and just as important, what that number can't tell you.

Units

Shoes off. Height matters more than weight here. BMI divides by it twice, so an inch off moves the result more than a few pounds do.

BMI was built to screen populations, not to judge your body. It can't tell muscle from fat, so a lean, heavily trained person can read high and someone carrying very little muscle can read normal. One number among several. Not a verdict.
