What Do the Army and Jeff Bezos Have In Common?

During my Army days, I learned invaluable social lessons, particularly during my time in Germany. Caring for colleagues on a personal level emerged as a crucial aspect of work life, especially when stationed abroad. As a US soldier in Germany, Iraq, or Colombia, connecting with locals is challenging, making bonds with workmates essential.

These work relationships transformed into strong friendships, often surpassing familial ties. Our shared experiences, both voluntary and necessary, solidified our bonds in the 587th Signal Co. Acceptance, built on understanding character rather than lifestyle, created a close-knit team.

How does this relate to Jeff Bezos? His controversial statement on integrating work and personal life struck a chord. Unlike the American view of work as a means to an end, Bezos suggests a more integrated approach. Work is inevitable and forms a significant part of our lives. Learning teamwork, even through shared enjoyment, prepares us for collective focus.

Our personal lives are undeniably crucial, the driving force behind our existence. Bezos emphasizes the integration of work into our personal lives. What we do is an integral part of who we are, contributing to the lives around us. If we don't appreciate this, it's our responsibility to make our work meaningful for ourselves and the world.
